André Marie Ampère's name is
remembered in the unit of electric current: the amp.

Ampère held some interesting posts.
He had comosed a treatise on conic sections (ask your maths teacher about
these) by the age of 13. He was Professor of Physics at Bourg, and Lyons.
He was later appointed Insector General of the Imperial University and
Professor of Mechanics at the Collège
de France. His classic contribution to science was entitled Mémoire
sur la théorie mathématique
des phénomènes
électrodynamiques uniquement déduite
